Putin warned of plot to assassinate him during Tuesday visit to Tehran – Interfax from unnamed security source
The source reported several gangs of suicide bombers had been set up to murder the Russian president during his visit to Iran. He is due to meet President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and attend a Caspian Sea summit, the first Russian head of state to visit Iran. Iran’s foreign ministry dismissed the reports as “completely baseless and part of a psychological war.”
A Kremlin spokesman said Putin’s travel plans are unaltered. But lawmaker Gennadiy Gudkov, assigned high credibility to the report. He told Vesti TV”…there are enough radical organizations…which would like to settle a score with the Russian president.” He referred to Tehran as the stronghold of radical Islamic organizations.
Putin met German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin Sunday.
