Syria: Wide-ranging Israel air strikes in three waves over Damascus region

Syrian sources reported shortly before midnight of Nov. 29, that Israeli air attacks had been ongoing from 21:30 over areas in the Damascus vicinity. Three waves of air and missile attacks had struck Al Kiswah, south of the capital, Qanaqar to the southwest, and Quneitra opposite Israel’s Golan border.
Arab broadcasting stations claimed that flames were rising over Damascus airport from targeted aircraft. Also hit, they reported, were pro-Iranian militias’ command posts and bases, various missile batteries and Hizballah forces.  None of these reports are officially confirmed. However, DEBKAfile’s military sources estimate that even if they are partly correct, Israel is conducting its most wide-ranging assault on Iranian and Hizballah targets in southwestern Syria since its major offensive of May 10 on 52 Iranian and Syrian sites.

The IDF has meanwhile reported that a missile was fired from Syria into Israeli Golan. It exploded on open ground. The spokesman denied any Israeli aircraft were hit by Syrian fire. According to Hizballah’s TV, all IDF bases on the Golan have been suddenly blacked out.

When the news first came in earlier, DEBKAfile posted this report:
Syrian sources, including the official news agency SANA, reported Thursday night that Syria air defenses had repelled “hostiles targets” in the Al-Kiswah region south of Damascus and that the operation was still ongoing. Other sources claimed that the Israeli Air Force had attacked pro-Iranian militia concentrations in the same region. Some said there were Hizballah units present there. DEBKAfile: If those reports are confirmed, then this will be the third Israel attack by air or missile on targets in Syria since suspending its air strikes following the shooting down of a Russian spy plane on Sept. 17. Before that, Al Kiswah took a number of Israeli air strikes, the last occurring on May 10 against a shipment of Iranian Fatteh-313 missiles landing in Syria. Our military sources add that Al Kiswah is the seat of the Iranian command for South Syria which is headed by Maj. Gen. Hossein Hamadani.

Any response from Hizbollah/Iran/Syria (the three headed snake), must be met by a pounding that will bring peace for 20 years.

Syria does not want a war with Israel. Russia does not want a war with Israel. Iran does not want a war with Israel. Hizballah does not want a war with Israel. The US arms manufacturers want wars with all of them. US F22s are being battle tested. US F35s are being battle tested. Israel will soon occupy Gaza. Israel will soon carve large portions of Syria and Lebanon into new DMZs. War will be the US vs Iran w Saudi-Jordanian-Egyptian forces and US-Israeli air forces. Russia will not fight in the desert. They are a Naval power and will stay intact to protect their regional interests only. They will not be forced to divide their strength. Iran will one day rue rule the day they allowed the US-ISIS diversion to weaken them prior to being invaded.

Missiles are to Aircraft Carriers as Aircraft Carriers were to Battleships. So, now Aircraft Carriers need “screen” of electronic and kinetic protection. Most smaller military budget nations will limit navies to guided missile destroyers and cruisers, maybe some submarines. U.S. Aircraft Carriers are war bait for countries like Iran, North Korea and China. Military planners understand in a general war scenario Aircraft Carriers are primary targets.

Disabling satellites is likely in the current tit-for-tat methodology of warfare among the big players. USA vulnerability is lack of Famine Hedge after rubber tire food distribution failure. Prior to the VietNam War, American Agriculture Districts had sufficient railway loading capacity to backstop food distribution now 100% dependent on trucks. Political and financial challenges to rail branch line rehab in America call for private funding by wealthy persons with understanding electronic wealth is vaporized when the satellites are targeted.

Famine Hedge is the CRUCIAL missing piece in the American Defense scheme. Old School military planners like James A Van Fleet spelled it out in his 1955 response to the US Defense Highway Act; see the General’s transport manifesto “RAILROADS AND THE WINNING OF WARS”. William Forschen’s “ONE SECOND AFTER” is explanatory.

Funny how the people you say do not want war are far away from their homes conducting war.

Israel does not want war either which is why they must prevent the interlopers now in the region from gaining such a significant advantage that their stated Islamic desire to wage war on Israel does not come to pass.

I wonder what happened to S-300. Or was it also Hit? for what purpose were they brought? Defending airspace narrows the thinking. exploring ways to break through the contested airspace widens the thinking and creativity. S-300 could be a cast on stones. lets wait and see what S-400 or S-10,000 for that matter will do.

Russia and Iran Vs The USA and Israel? I would bet on the USA and Israel to prevail in a dominating display of an overwhelming military offensive that would leave little standing afterwards. Russia is smart enough to not overplay their hand, because they know they are overmatched militarily…and more importantly Russia is not willing to lose the flesh/blood, money and reputation over an area that is not their homeland. Syria is a military adventure for them…..for Israel it is about saving their homes…..and in that context Israel will seriously bloody ANY country that poses an existential threat to their homeland. What’s the point of the politics the day after defeat? Israel can not afford to lose ONE WAR, even if it means against Russia – and Russia knows this very well.

    Amazing comments!

Everything from a genocidal maniac to other conspiracists and megalomaniacs.

We don’t even yet know exactly what the targets were, what forces were employed, what ordnance was used, what the mission objectives were, what the follow-up moves will be, etc.

There is a good chance even the on-scene commanders don’t have a full BDA as of yet. It’s not a time for wild speculation as to what this means and what the full implications are or will be.

its strange how for such a large 3-wave attack how there is no discussion of what was hot, photo’s of damage.

Its almost like it was a non event. So was this really as the Syrians said, Israel attacked, Syria fired back and downed the incoming missiles and the IDF ran away in fear?

It’s definately not Israel that conducted this operation. It’s an actor that’s attempting to blame that country for what it has done!
