Two terror attacks in London, multiple fatalities


At least seven fatalities in terror attacks Saturday night on London Bridge which crosses the River Thames in central London and nearby Borough Market which is full of bars and restaurants. The attacks took place four days before UK’s general election on June 8. Police said that a vehicle plowed into pedestrians on London Bridge. At nearby Borough Market, three men got out of a van and began stabbing people on the streets and in restauarants.  Armed police are looking for three men of Middle East aspect, after two suspects were reported as being shot dead by police. One or two suspects were armed with bomb belts, latger proving to be fake.. London Bridge railway station was closed while people were evacuated from London Bridge and the surrounding area, including a hotel, with their hands on their heads. Several ambulances rushed to the scene. One witness reported: 'I saw a man with a large blade' emerging from a van and stabbing people at random. Bleeding victims escaped into local restaurants and pubs. Several controlled explosions were carried out.

Theresa May said the terrible attacks are being investigated as acts of terrorism and a Cobra emergency meeting takes place early Sunday. Britain was on severe terrorist threat level after a terrorist attack on May 22 at a pop concert in the northern town of Manchester left 22 dead.
