Berlin denies report that Merkel stopped backing Israel due to PM

A German government spokesman on Sunday night denied a report in the Der Spiegel weekly that Berlin is about to stop its unconditional support for Israel due to Chancellor Angela Merkel's frustration with the policies of Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu regarding "settlements" and the Palestinians. The spokesman said "The guidelines of German Middle East policy have not changed."
