Four US troops killed in “insider” Afghan attack. NATO strike kills 8 women
Four US troops were killed and two wounded in another suspected “insider” Afghan attack in southern Afghanistan Sunday, bringing the total number of US deaths this week at the hands of Afghans to six.
Also found dead by a response team was one of the six Afghan National Police (ANP) operating the observation post with six US troops. The other five had disappeared.
Sunday's shooting took place in Zabol the day after two British soldiers were shot dead by an Afghan policeman. At least 51 foreign military personnel have been killed in "insider" attacks this year.
NATO-led air strikes in southern Laghman on Saturday night province killed eight women, according to a local official. The coalition acknowledged up to eight civilians could have died as a result of the bombing, but said a "large number" of insurgents had been killed in the strike.
