IAF planes refueled Jordanian warplanes in aerial exercise, US says
US military sources said Tuesday that Israeli Air Force planes refueled Jordanian fighters above the Atlantic Ocean during a US military exercise in July. The sources added that other Arab countries took part in the "Red Flag" exercise as well, but did not identify them.
The disclosure came after Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said during a lecture on Tuesday that Israeli pilots had participated in US military aerial maneuvers along with counterparts from Arab countries. Yaalon said it is no longer unusual that there is cooperation between the IAF and the air forces of Arab countries opposed to the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad, Iran and Hizballah. He also said the IAF helped locate the site in the Sinai Peninsula where a Russian passenger plane crashed on Saturday.
Jordanian officials declined to comment on Yaalon's statement, while Egyptian officials said they did not know about any Israeli surveillance planes that entered the airspace over the peninsula to help locate the Russian jet.
