Iran declines “sidelines” role at Geneva 2 on Syria

“Iran will only accept proposals on its participation in the upcoming Syria peace talks that respect its dignity,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham said Monday. He was responding to Secretary of State John Kerry’s remarks in Jerusalem Sunday that Iran might play a role on the sidelines of the Geneva talks, which are due to start Jan. 22 – even if not formally invited.
