Iran’s top soldier lands in Damascus during Russian Defense Minister’s talks in Israel

Maj. Gen, Mohammad Bagheri, Iran’s Chief of Staff, arrived on an unscheduled visit to Damascus Tuesday. He came for no officially stated reason on the same day that Russia’s Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu was closeted with Israeli leaders. DEBKAfile’s sources also note that his visit came a day after a Syrian missile was fired at Israeli air force planes over Lebanon from a battery near Damascus,  which was later destroyed in an Israeli raid.
