Israel’s new central bank governor is Prof. Leo Leiderman

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Finance Minister Yair Lapid chose Prof. Leiderman, Bank Hapoalim’s chief economist, as the new Governor of the Bank of Israel Wednesday, two days after Prof. Yaakov Frenkel decided against taking up the post. Argentine-born Leiderman, migrated to Israel aged 17, has a bachelor's degree in economics from the Hebrew University and masters and PhD from Chicago University. He is married with two children and three grandchildren.
