Lavrov: Patriots not only against Syria, but Iran too.
In his third extensive interview since Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov Monday this time referred to NATO’s deployment of Patriot missiles in Turkey: He said they are not just intended to counter crossfire from Syria but from Iran as well. As to their positioning, said Lavrov, “… some people say it is quite useful to protect the American radar that is part of the missile defense system they are building, quoting ‘the threat from Iran.’ If that is the case, then …this multiple purpose deployment could create additional temptations.”
DEBKAfile: The Russian minister was referring to the US X-Band radar system located at Turkey’s Kericik air base and linked to the Negev system as part of the US missile shield against Iranian missile attack.
