Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir takes charge of IDF Southern Command
In a ceremony at IDF headquarters in Tel Aviv, Maj. Gen. Eyal Zamir was appointed head of the Southern Command on Tuesday, replacing Maj. Gen. Sami Turgeman who held the post for the last two and a half years. Zamir formerly served as military secretary to the prime minister, among other posts. Defense Minister Moshe Ya'alon and the chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Gady Eisenkot, also took part in the ceremony.
