Russian Kuril Islands quake prompts US Hawaii tsunami warning

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck off Russia’s Kuril Islands early Wednesday. US authorities said the quake had the potential to generate a destructive tsunami on the coasts of Hawaii, Japan, Russia and Pacific islands. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
