Senate confirmation hearing for FBI director-nominee Wray kicks off

The Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday started its hearing for the confirmation of Christopher Wray as director of the FBI. Wray, previously a relatively low-ranking Justice Department official, was tapped by President Donald Trump after the firing of the previous director, James Comey, in May. The nominee told senators that he views the post as an independent position, vowing to resign if he is pressured to halt any investigation. He also said that he does not consider the FBI's investigation of Russian interference in the presidential election, or the appointment of a special counsel, as a witch hunt, and does not question the findings of the investigation.
