Syria accuses Israel of missile strike south of Damascus
According to Syrian state TV, most of the missiles aimed at southern Damascus came from the Golan early Monday and were shot down by Syria air defenses. Regional intelligence sources say Iran’s Qods Force and militias it backs have established a strong presence in a string of underground bases in the southern outskirts of Damascus. They have been repeatedly attacked by reported Israeli strikes.
On Thursday, US warplanes bombed buildings and arms trucks used by Iranian-backed militias on the Syrian side of its border with Iraq.
