The German-made Saar-6 corvette docks at Haifa
The Israel navy’s most advanced warship, the Saar 6 corvette, arrived from Germany on Wednesday and docked in Haifa port. Another three of the same model are to follow next year, bringing Israel’s missile-oat fleet to a total of fifteen. This small fleet carries out missions in remote seas like the Red Sea and Persian Gulf. The new corvettes will also serve to protect Israel’s offshore gas rigs, which are located near the Lebanese coast. An Israeli security officer told Reuters: “Iran is looking for prestige targets that can be hit without casualties or trigger a major escalation.” Would Hizballah undertake such a strike?
