Syrian-Hizballah offensive thrown back by rebels on Mt. Hermon

The Syrian army’s 4th Division and Hizballah forces launched a fresh operation Wednesday against Syrian rebels defending the Beit Jinn pocket, just a few kilometers from Israeli military positions on Mount Hermon. DEBKAfile’s military sources report that the defenders forced the Syrian-Hizballah force to retreat with dead and wounded, after burning their tanks with anti-tank rockets. The battle took place while Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman was inspecting IDF Golan positions to the south. He was accompanied by Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen, Gady Eisenkott and OC Northern Command Maj. Gen. Yoel Strick.
