Netanyahu: Police may call on army forces to help control street violence

PM Binyamin Netanyahu said Thursday that the police are authorized to call on the army for help in containing the street riots spreading through Israel’s mixed Jewish-Arab cities. On a visit to the riot-stricken town of Lod, he promised stronger measures of enforcement to break up the violent street disorders.
The southern town of Arad has been cut off from the outside world for three days since traffic including public transport stopped using access roads, after serious attacks on vehicles for which local Bedouin were held responsible.

In Acre, hundreds of Jewish businesses were set on fire and many hotels torched, vandalized and looted by a “small gang of Arabs.”

In Ramleh, a young man was knifed and seriously hurt by an Arab neighbor.
