Avigdor Lieberman hands in resignation as foreign minister
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman resigned his cabinet posts Sunday in order to stand trial for a breach of trust case left over from the major charges dropped by the Attorney General last week.
His resignation goes into effect in 48 hours. The prime minister will hold the foreign affairs portfolio temporarily. Lieberman has asked for a swift court hearing so as to clear his name before the Jan. 22 general election.
