Egyptian, Cypriot and Greek leaders discuss regional energy alliance
On Wednesday, under tight security, a trilateral summit took place in Athens between the leaders of a new regional energy alliance. President Fatteh Al-Sisi of Egypt, Prime Minister Alexis Tsirpas of Greece and Prime Minister Nicos Anastasiades of Cyprus discussed economic cooperation with an emphasis on the gas fields in the Mediterranean. Earlier, DEBKAfile's sources said in an exclusive report that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the establishment of a Middle Eastern consortium, the first of its kind in the region, to consolidate the Egyptian, Israeli and Cypriot gas fields.
