Galant and IDF chief: Reservists may not shun duty to fight judicial reform

Senior officers refusing to serve in the military reserves to protest the judicial overhaul are jeopardizing national security, Defense Minister Yoav Galant said in a conversation with reserve troops in the West Bank on Tuesday. Responding to calls from certain units to officers to refuse to volunteer for duty, Galant stressed: “The IDF symbol, like the national flag, may not be used to justify any side of a national dispute.” He then warned: “Under no circumstances would refusal to serve be permissible, anywhere, in any sector, corps or unit.”

IDF chief Lt Gen. Herzi Halevi had earlier stated that the controversy over the legal overhaul would not be allowed to affect the army’s “ability to carry out its missions.”
