“The punishment will fit the crime,” said the Iraqi Shiite Kata’ib Hezbollah Tuesday, the day after its forces were attacked while crossing into to Syria from Iraq east of Deir ez-Zour. Between 40 and 50 fighters were reported killed in the attack, although DEBKAfile’s military sources estimate that the casualty toll was probably higher. The militia issued this response: “We will not hesitate to confront the Zionist entity and the American project. Stupid Trump and mentally retarded Netanyahu know exactly whom the killed yesterday and to which movement they belong. Our response will match their crime.”

The Arabs and the Iranians can threaten revenge at Israel all they want. Israel is just plain too strong for them. Israel is the military powerhouse of the Middle East. The Israeli military leaders probably had to restrain themselves from laughing, it’s been almost too easy to attack and pick off the Iranian forces in Syria. Even the Russians wouldn’t look forward to a showdown with the Israeli military machine.
