NATO warplane said to intercept jet carrying Russian defense minister

In the latest sign of growing tensions between Washington and Moscow, the Russian media reported that a NATO F-16 warplane approached a jet carrying Russia's defense minister that was flying in international airspace over the Baltic Sea on Wednesday. The F-16 was said to have been chased away by Russian fighters that were scrambled to deal with the interception. The reports did not specify which member of NATO the warplane was from. Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu was said to have been flying to the enclave of Kaliningrad between Poland and Lithuania when the incident occurred.
