Security cabinet denies discussing ceasefire
That the security cabinet would on Sunday discuss Hamas’ offer of a long- term truce was denied in Jerusalem, following a Financial Times report. The FT also contended that also at stake is the return of the bodies of two Israeli soldiers and two Israeli citizens held in Gaza. The UN, Egypt and Qatar were said to be negotiating a short ceasefire to get fuel for Gaza’s only power plant into the enclave before it runs out by Monday. The cabinet session lasted four hours, after which Hamas directed heavy rocket fire at Beersheba, Ashkelon, Ashdod and other places. No casualties were reported.
