USS carrier Nimitz rerouted to Red Sea to defend Jordan
The nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz strike group, which includes four destroyers and a cruiser, were rerouted Sunday night to the Red Sea. US defense officials said they were moved in to help support a limited US strike on Syria if needed. DEBKAfile: Saturday, Aug. 31, when the US strike was still on track, the flotilla assigned with the missile attack did not include aircraft carriers – only five destroyers and four submarines. Obama decided to reassign the Nimitz to fend off the charges of hesitancy and abandoning allies leveled against him and show strong support for Jordan and Israel.
