Bidding in full swing for Nikki Haley’s successor
President Donald Trump says there are “numerous” people ready to take the US seat at the UN when Nikki Haley quits at the end of the year after “an incredible job.” They include Dina Powell, his former deputy security adviser, Republican Senator Bob Corker, Richard Grenell, US ambassador to Germany, who previously served as a spokesman for the US Mission to the UN; and Kelly Craft, US ambassador to Canada. Trump said his daughter Ivanka would be “dynamite” in the job, but he would be accused of nepotism if he chose her. Haley praised son-in-law Jared Kushner, as “a hidden genius” in her farewell comments at the White House. Her tough line on Iran and championship of Israel represented the president’s policy. Her exit is lamented in Israel but celebrated in Tehran.
