Ramadi’s fall to ISIS confirmed. Kerry: It will be reversed
The Baghdad government confirmed Monday that the Islamic State had taken full control of Ramadi, Iraq’s third largest city, and Iraqi units had fled. But US Secretary of State John Kerry said he was confident the ISIS takeover of the western city would be reversed in coming weeks. Speaking in Seoul, Kerry said Ramadi had been a target of opportunity for the Islamist militants and “that’s going to change as overall [they] have been driven back…”
The fall of Ramadi, capital of Anbar, Iraq’s biggest, province, is the Baghdad government’s biggest defeat this year.
