Trump hires counsel for his Senate impeachment trial

Former president Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial is due to begin in mid-February to give him time for preparation, Republican Senator Mike Braun told reporters on Thursday. Trump is reported to have hired South Caroline-based lawyer Butch Bowsers to represent him. On Jan. 13, the Democratic-led House of Representative impeached him on the charge of inciting an insurrection that was said to have sent his supporters to storm the US Capitol.
